At First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we value the presence and participation of all ages. FCC offers special programming on Sunday mornings and throughout the year for children (ages 3 – 5th grade). Contact the Church office with any questions or to volunteer with this special part of the ministry.
First Christian Church finds it important to celebrate children and youth as they reach different milestones along their faith journey. These milestones begin with infants with a child blessing. They become acolytes, receive Bibles, participate in Pastor’s Class in preparation for baptism, become junior deacons, and more!
Worship & Wonder
We encourage children to be active participants in worship, but we also offer Worship & Wonder so they have the opportunity to interact with worship on their own developmental level. Worship & Wonder, a Montessori-influenced program, allows children to hear Bible stories and form responses from their own life experiences. They learn the meaning of church traditions and participate in hands-on worship practices through a story-telling teaching method. During the 9:00 a.m. service, children ages 3 through 2nd grade are invited forward for a prayer, then escorted to the Worship & Wonder room by the shepherd. Parents pick up their children from the Worship & Wonder room at the conclusion of worship.
Nursery
Free childcare is available for infants to 3-year-olds while parents attend worship and Sunday School. Care available 8:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Sunday School
Sunday School begins on Sunday mornings at 10:15 a.m. in the first-floor education wing. Children will begin in the Children’s Worship & Wonder room for singing, then go to their classrooms down the same hallway. Our Sunday School classes follow a lectionary-based curriculum, allowing all ages to study the scripture through age-appropriate lessons, hands-on activities, and interactive games. Parents may pick up their children in their classrooms at 11:15 a.m.
