From the Preacherman….
When will we get to come back to church? That question has been
floating around in many conversations of late, and I am glad for the
interest. Your Task Force for Reopening has met and is pondering when
and how we will do this. The first Sunday in Lent is February 21 and will be
a good date to begin having people back in the building for worship.
The membership of the church will be divided into four groups
according to last name. A reminder will go out early in the week of the
Sunday you are assigned. Space is limited, so you will need to let us know if
you plan to attend. The groups will pick up where we left off in November
and will look like this….
February 21 Group #3: H, K, L, M, N
February 28 Group #4: O, P, Q, R, S, V, W, Y, Z
March 7 Group #1: A, B, C, I
March 14 Group #2: D, E, F, G, J, T
Masks and social distancing are still going to be needed. Many
members are being vaccinated, while others are not, for a variety of
reasons. Know this before you come. We are going to adhere as well as
possible to our basic theology of “All are Welcome,” even in the middle of a
pandemic. While we won’t pass offering plates, there will be one at the
sanctuary door. The Lord’s Supper will be celebrated in worship with
elements available in the foyer when you leave.
Sound like a plan? Well, it’s a mess and we know it. We have tried to
smooth out the edges, but there is nothing we can do about the questions
and problems except make our best effort and lean forward into God’s
future. Please know, that is all we are trying to do. I appreciate the
members of the Task Force who want to wrestle with whatever comes next.
They serve you well and I am grateful for their time and energy.
Many who are not church members at FCC have visited with us in
online worship since last March. We are grateful. Online worship will
continue into the future, but maybe you are curious about worshiping with
us in person. Here is our appeal to you. Reach out to the church office
(270-684-8879 or [email protected]) and let us know you want to
worship with us in person. We will find a place for you. We invite you to
come and see the odd and wonderful work God is up to in this place and
among these people. You won’t regret it.
