Minutes of the Governing Board
March 9, 2009
Attendance:
Governing Board Members in Attendance: Terry Brownson, Kristin Callis, John Dejarnette, Steve Divine, Amy Fredrickson-Wilkey, Chris Gaddis, Wayne Goodaker, Flem Gordon, Steve Ham, Larkin Hayden, Tom Maddox, Teresa McKinley, Leslie Mobley, Lynn Mobley, and Suzanne Willis.
Other Members/Staff in attendance: Verne Bethel, Marjorie Flowers, Rev. Jacob Kines, Marbrey Hedges, Mary Johnson, Ken Lawson, and Sara Palmer.
Governing Board Members not in attendance: Malcolm Bryant, Sally Bryant, Cori Carter, Bill Conley, Hilda Nance, Nathan Nunley, Tab Quisenberry, Jason Roberts, and Brad Webb.
Governing Board Meeting:
Chairperson Amy Fredrickson-Wilkey called the meeting to order at 5:35 PM.
The meeting was opened with a prayer by Elder Suzanne Willis.
Minutes were presented for approval. (T.Brownson/L. Mobley). Minutes were approved.
TEAM REPORTS:
Worship: Terry Brownson
Terry Brownson reported.
The Committee met on March 2nd. Twelve members in attendance.
Developing a pew card for weekly recording of prayer requests and hospitalizations.
Start sign ups of Good Friday Prayer Vigil.
Promote Maundy Thursday services with the public and other churches.
Consider not having chancel flowers during part or all of Lenten season.
Next meeting scheduled for Monday, April 6th at 5:30 PM.
Fellowship/Membership: Hilda Nance/Larkin Hayden
Larkin Hayden reported.
The committee has sent cards to the individuals on the prayer list and have prepared flower arrangements for our shut ins.
Lenten Luncheons scheduled for Tuesday’s at 12:10 PM.
Church Growth/Mission: Leslie or Lynn Mobley/Malcolm Bryant
Lynn Mobley reported.
Sending personal invitations to our visitors for Palm Sunday.

Education: Chris Gaddis
Chris Gaddis reported.
Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for Saturday, April 11th at 11 AM. The Hunt will be conducted at Bob & Shirley Fuqua’s house.
Spring Fling is scheduled for Sunday, April 26th.
Vacation Bible School is scheduled for July 12th – 16th. The School will be in session from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM.
The Committee prepared a calendar/timeline to “help” make our members more aware of our volunteer needs.
Sara Palmer reported.
KYB Work Retreat scheduled for April 24th – 26th. Adults needed too.
FYB Club hosting a bake sale to raise money for their “help” project.
The Kids Choir will be singing during the Easter service.
CYF will be having a work day on March 28th.
On May 17th, the CYF will be hosting a fundraising luncheon with live entertainment.
Two new furnaces need to be purchased. Bids are being requested.
A structural engineer has been called to examine the walls in the sanctuary.
A walk through of the church will be performed by Tom Maddox, Jason Pierce and Nathan Nunley in the near future.
Flem Gordon reported for Finance.
The Finance report for the month of February and the year ending February 28, 2009 was presented to the Board.
Minister’s Report – Rev. Kines
Rev. Kines spoke at the Elders’ retreat. Attending team meetings and working with staff to determine what is working and what isn’t.
Sara’s Report – Refer to Education Team Summary
Other Reports:
Elders’ Report – Suzanne Willis reported. Elders retreat was held on Saturday, February 21st. Twenty-three elders attended, with Rev. Kines participating.
Deacon’s Report – Steve Divine reported. Will be working on the junior deacon process and scheduling.
CWF – Lenten Luncheons scheduled on Tuesday’s at 12:10 PM throughout the month of March.
CMF – No report.
Environmental Stewardship – Marjorie Flowers reported. Earth Day scheduled for April 18th. Meeting scheduled for March 12th at 6 PM.
Old Business:
Church Emergency Plan – Board will be working on.
New Business:
Wedding Policy was reviewed and approved.
Personnel Policies have been completed by Ken Willis. The policies are being reviewed by the Executive Committee and will be presented to the Board for approval within a couple of months.
Chairperson Amy Fredrickson-Wilkey adjourned the meeting at 6:25 PM.
