Minutes of the Governing Board
December 8, 2008
Attendance:
Governing Board Members in Attendance: Sue Bethel, Terry Brownson, Sally Bryant, Kristin Callis, Steve Divine, Kaye Farmer, Flem Gordon, Mary Johnson, Janet Luckett, Mike Matthews, Teresa McKinley, Ginger Norris, Tab Quisenberry, Jason Roberts, Sandy Roberts, and Pam Woodward.
Other Members/Staff in attendance: John DeJarnette, Marbrey Hedges, Patty Matthews, Sara Palmer, Janice Pulliam, and Dr. Tom Steiner
Governing Board Members not in attendance: Nelda Barnett, Bill Conley, Amy Fredrickson-Wilkey, Stuart Gant, Steve Ham, Hilda Nance, Nathan Nunley, David Ruckdeschel and Brad Webb.
Governing Board Meeting:
Vice - Chairperson Flem Gordon called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM.
The meeting was opened with a prayer by Pam Woodward.
Minutes were presented for approval. (T.Quisenberry/T. Brownson).Minutes were approved.
TEAM REPORTS:
Worship:Dave Ruckdeschel or Terry Brownson
Terry Brownson reported.
The Worship Committee met on Monday, December 1st.Four committee members were present.
The Committee planned the services scheduled for Advent.
Discussed planning issues for 2009, including recruiting new members to the team.
Fellowship/Membership: Hilda Nance/Kaye Farmer
Kaye Farmer reported.
The Thanksgiving dinner on November 23rd was a huge success.
On December 28th, the Committee will be preparing a “finger food” breakfast in recognition of Dr. Tom Steiner.The breakfast will be at 9:30 AM.No Sunday school scheduled.If you would like to help, please contact Hilda.
The first Sunday of January, the Committee will prepare a breakfast in honor of our new minister, please contact Hilda to help.
The Committee needs assistance with Symphony Sunday.Homemade cookies will be served.
Church Growth/Mission:Pam Woodward/Ginger Norris
Ginger Norris reported.
The Committee will work the Pitino Shelter on December 14th.
Sunday school classes will be collecting donations for local outreach.Each class picked a local mission to fund.
Education: Janet Luckett or Sandra Roberts
Sara Palmer reported.
Preschool and Toddler classes have switched rooms.
The Christmas Program is scheduled for December 14th.Please attend Youth Groups if you want to participate.
Pam Woodward has agreed to teach the GAP class, thus resigning her position as the CYF’s teacher.The 4th and 5th grade Sunday School teacher also resigned.Therefore, we are in need of two Sunday school teachers – one for the CYF class and one for the 4th and 5th graders.
West Area Ski Thing is scheduled for January 23rd – 24th.
Youth Groups will resume in January.
Youth mission trip planned for the end of June/early July.The Youth will be traveling to Denver, Colorado.2009 planners are being sold to help raise money for their trip.
Tom Maddox has agreed to Chair the Property Committee next year.
Tab Quisenberry reported for Finance.
The Finance report for November was presented to the Board.
Outreach giving will be reviewed at the end of year.Tab, Janice and Dr. Steiner will determine if we should donate to the West Area.
Minister’s Report – Dr. Tom Steiner
Reported on members in the Hospital.
Enjoy all of the Christmas parties.

Other Reports:
Elders’ Report – No report.Meeting scheduled for December 20th at 8 AM.
Deacon’s Report – Steve Divine reported.Eleven new deacons have been approved.The Deacons will start having quarterly meetings.We are in need of Junior Deacons.
CWF – Kaye Farmer reported.Meeting at Leslie Mobley’s on December 9th.Working on Christmas bags for the shut ins.The group raised about $500 from the bake sale.
CMF – Mike Matthews announced that the group will meet on January 3rd at Zion and at Century in February.
Environmental Stewardship – No report.
Search Committee – No report.
Old Business:
Ken Lawson and John Dejarnette are working on a pictorial.Please contact if you have not had your picture taken.
New Business:
Vice Chairperson Flem Gordon thanked all of the committee leaders and members for their service this year.
Symphony Sunday is scheduled for December 21st.We need to review the cost before approving the Symphony for 2009.
Vice Chairperson Flem Gordon adjourned the meeting at 6:20 PM.
