Minutes of the Governing Board

February 16, 2010

Attendance:

Governing Board Members in Attendance: Nelda Barnett, Terry Brownson, Kristin Callis, Amy Fredrickson-Wilkey, Wayne Goodaker, Flem Gordon, Larkin Hayden, Marbrey Hedges, Ken Lawson, Janet Luckett, Tab Quisenberry, Ron Waite, Carolyn Williams, and Suzanne Willis.

Other Members/Staff in attendance: Bill Conley, Mary Johnson, Jacob Kines, Mark Luckett, Francy Miller, Phyllis Newman, and Ken Willis

Governing Board Members not in attendance: Sally Bryant, Anne Carlisle, Cori Carter, Heather Newman, Nancy Conner, Wayne Goodaker, Lynn Mobley, Steve Divine, Nathan Nunley, Hilda Nance, Jason Roberts, Sandy Roberts, and Katie Sterett.

Governing Board Meeting:

Chairperson Flem Gordon called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM. 

Elder Ken Lawson opened the meeting with a prayer.

Minutes were presented for approval. Minutes were approved.

Quorum was established and noted.

TEAM REPORTS:

Worship:  Terry Brownson

• The Committee is discussing Lay Sunday events, Lenten Services, Stewardship of Talents and Youth Sunday.
• The Committee is also working Pulpit substitution days for Jacob.

Fellowship/Membership: Ron Waite & Hilda Nance/Larkin Hayden

• Ron Waite reported for Fellowship
• Each month, the Church will celebrate “all birthdays of the month” after late service. Cake will be served.
• FCC will host the first Lenten Service. The dinner will be provided by the Boy Scouts. 
• Larkin Hayden reported for Membership.
• Flowers delivered to shut ins. Notes sent to individuals included on the prayer list.

Church Growth/Mission: Amy Fredrickson-Wilkey/Katie Sterett & Carolyn Williamson

• Amy F-Wilkey reported for Growth.
• The Church has had 33 adult visitors since January 1^st. The Committee has sent notes to all visitors with a known address.
• Carolyn Williams reported for Outreach.
• No report.

Education: Janet Luckett & Sandy Roberts

• Janet Luckett reported.
• March 7^th will be Youth Sunday.
• CYF raised approximately $1500 from their Valentino’s fundraiser.
• Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for March 27^th at the Fuqua’s. If it rains, the hunt will be held at the church.

Finance/Stewardship/Property: Tab Quisenberry/Jason Roberts

• No report for Property.
• Tab Quisenberry reported for Finance.
• The Finance report for the month of January and the year ending January 31, 2010 was presented to the Board. (modified cash basis)

Minister’s Report – Rev. Kines

• Discussed creating mission and vision statements. Each statement is different and we need the members of our congregation to support the actual mission of the church.

Other Reports:

Elders’ Report – Ken Lawson reported.   The Connection Groups have been defined. Visitation training with Jim Westmoreland is in process. 

Deacon’s Report – No report.

CWF – Lenten Luncheons start next Tuesday. Devotionals will start at 12:10 PM with lunch at 12:30 PM. Backpack Ministry continues to grow. CWF has added 40 backpacks to their Ministry. The kids go to Burns Elementary.

CMF – No report. 

Environmental Stewardship – No report.  

Search Committee

• No report.

New Business:

• The Board discussed our monthly meeting schedule. It was decided that the Board does not feel it is necessary to meet on a monthly basis. Thus, Terry Brownson made a motion to amend the bylaws to reflect that the Board will meet every other month. The “off” month should be used for special/committee meetings. Lynn Mobley seconded the motion. All approved.
• A special committee has been formed. The Discernment Team consists of Flem Gordon, Ken Lawson, Terry Brownson, Cate Gaddis, Nelda Barnett, Malcolm Bryant, Pam Woodward, and Rodney Berry. The Committee meets every Tuesday night except Board Meeting Tuesday.

Chairperson Gordon adjourned the meeting at 6:40 PM.

Rev. Jacob Kines closed the meeting with a prayer.
