FEBRUARY 2010 NEWS OF DISCIPLES WOMEN’S MINISTRIES

Thanks to everyone who donated to our Armchair Bazaar, the January service project. If you forgot in January but want to participate, give your cash or check (made payable to CWF) to our treasurer, Marbrey Hedges. 

The Daytime CWF Group will meet at the church on Tuesday, February 2, at 1 p.m. The Evening Group will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, at the home of Alpha Jo Luallen, 2258 Hoop Junior Court.  We welcome all women to attend either or both of these meetings. This is a great way to become acquainted with other women at FCC and to participate in relevant study and worship activities. The study topic for February is “Outsiders Become Insiders,” based on Joshua 2:1-24; 6:25; 9:3-27.

February 7, Super Bowl Sunday, is Super Soup Sunday at FCC. Both women and men will be preparing soup at home, freezing or refrigerating it in quart containers, and bringing it to FCC on Sunday, where soup will be for sale from 8:20 a.m. until 11:40 a.m., or until we sell the last quart. This is a great opportunity to enjoy a variety of delicious soups while watching the Super Bowl and helping support DWM outreach activities. CWF members, please contact one of our Service Directors, Janet Luckett or Hilda Nance, if you can work at the sales tables.

Our Worship Director, Connie Ford, is busily planning Lenten devotional services focusing on five of Christ’s parables. FCC women will provide salad luncheons after the services. We invite everyone to attend these programs on these Tuesdays: February 23, March 2, 9, 16, 23. It is not too early to put these dates on your calendars! “The Unforgiving Servant” (Matthew 18: 21-35) is the topic for February 23, with the following participating: Alpha Jo Luallen, leader; Bonnie Brown, speaker; and Phyllis Newman, musician.

Spring will be here before we know it, and Spring Conferences are highlights for Disciples Women. This year’s theme is “Tis the Gift…” We have two choices of dates, locations, and keynote speakers this year. Registration forms are available in the FCC office; note registration form and fee of $25 per person are due at least two weeks before the conference you choose. February meetings will be a good time to make plans to attend.

In the midst of all the activities mentioned above, let us remember to add change and/or bills to our blessing boxes and baby bottles. Blessing box contents will be presented at Spring Conference to further the work of Disciples Women’s Ministries. The funds in the baby bottles will be donated to Care Net, our May outreach project.
