SEPTEMBER 2009 NEWS OF DISCIPLES WOMEN’S MINISTRIES
On August 8, Janey Burns and Leslie Mobley continued their tradition of successfully coordinating the annual brunch at Field House. After the delicious meal, outgoing President Kaye Farmer received appreciation gifts for her leadership, and Nelda Barnett installed the following officers for 2009-2010:
President - Carol Haynes Worship & Study Director - Connie Ford
1st Vice-President - Leslie Mobley Service Directors – Janet Luckett
2nd Vice-President - Janey Burns and Hilda Nance
Secretary & Treasurer - Marbrey Hedges
Connie Ford introduced the worship and study theme for 2009-2010: Joshua: A Journey of Faith. September’s topic, “Who Is the God of Joshua?” relates to Joshua 1:1-9, 23. Those who cannot attend group meetings may want to read the selected scriptures each month and consider Joshua’s relevance to today’s world. The Daytime Group will meet at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, at FCC. The Evening Group will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, at Carol Haynes’ home, 501 Maple Avenue. All women are welcome!
Janet Luckett and Hilda Nance outlined the service projects for the year:
Sept. Backpacks for Cravens School Children
Oct. Luther Luckett Christian Church
Nov. Trip to Luther Luckett CC; FCC Food Pantry; FCC Bake Sale
Dec. Gifts for Shut-ins

(More specific information is included in monthly DWM columns and in The Caller.)
In September we are collecting contributions from FCC members and friends to purchase backpacks and food for 50 students who need meals provided during weekends throughout the school year. Make checks to “CWF” and put “Backpack Ministry” on the memo line. Please put checks in the offering plate on Sunday or mail to Marbrey Hedges at 4421 Greenacre Drive. These students also need clothing: size small sweatpants for boys and for girls; size 6 underwear for boys and for girls; shoe laces. The Family Resource Center could use gift cards to stores such as Target, Wal*Mart, Kmart, and Kroger to buy clothing and other items needed, such as large boxes of facial tissue and watercolor paint.
Those planning to attend the Fall Retreat for women on Oct. 17-18 at Lake Barkley State Resort Park should send a registration form (available in FCC office) and a check for $25 to Christian Church in KY, 1125 Red Mile Road, Lexington, KY 40504-2649 by October 10. Make lodging arrangements no later than September 17 by calling Lake Barkley State Resort Park at 1-800-325-1708. If you have never attended a retreat, you have missed a wonderful experience. If you have attended, you will not want to miss again.
